What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is complimentary medical practice that aims to stimulate certain points on the body. This is done by inserting needles such that they penetrate the skin and into the muscles below.
Locations of needles depend on the focus of the treatment, but they can be placed all over the body, even when the complaint is local to one area.

Is Acupuncture Effective?
Yes. Developed centuries ago in China, acupuncture has been used historically throughout the world to treat a wide range of conditions.
Over the past few decades, human research has been conducted on acupuncture with very positive outcomes. In fact, it is slowly growing into a first line medical intervention, even here in the western world.
Fertility is one field in which medical doctors have recognized the benefits and are recommending acupuncture as an adjunctive intervention. Acupuncture will be offered at Momma to Mommy to support women during all stages of pregnancy; both low-risk and high risk pregnancy as well as those dealing with infertility.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
Depending on the ailment, point selection will vary. There are around 350 acupuncture points around the body, and typical treatments include anywhere from 10 to 60 needles being inserted at once.
By placing the needles inside the body, we stimulate energy in meridians which flow through the body. Acupuncture is very much an energetic medicine which moves energy and blood throughout the body to stimulate certain processes.
From a western perspective, needle insertion not only bring blood flow, but research has shown it to modulate nerve fibers as well as having effects on certain hormones and physiological processes.
