What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a form of medicine which takes a holistic approach to identifying disease processes and coming up with treatment plans. A naturopath can use your full medical history to fully understand your chief complaints and together, you will come up with a feasible treatment plan.

Why The Holistic Approach?
The human body is a complex system, with many moving parts and many systems. Think of our cardiovascular system, respiratory system, hormonal systems, digestive system and the central nervous system, just to name a few.
Conventional medicine focuses on system-based approach, meaning you see a specialist for each complaint, often times limiting a patient to only focus on one complaint at a time.
Naturopathic medicine acknowledges the fact that these various systems interact with one another. When facing a patient, we encourage them to tell us about their complete health history, and treatment involves a truly integrative approach.

How Do Naturopaths Assess Your Health?
A detailed past and current-medical history is attained through an initial 1-hr assessment. Naturopaths can work alongside your medical doctors when applicable. Most patients continue to see both their Family Physician as well as their Naturopath, with very favourable treatment outcomes.
Naturopaths may require specialized testing to get a deeper glimpse into a patient’s health. A few more commonly run tests include hormonal assessments, food sensitivity tests and comprehensive stool analyses. Often times, the tests a naturopath run are not offered by medical doctors, and OHIP does not cover these them.

How Do Naturopaths Treat?
Treatment varies from person to person, but can include a combination of the following:
* Nutritional counselling
* Nutraceutical Prescription (vitamins, minerals, amino acids)
* Herbal/Botanical Medicine
* Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture
* Homeopathy
* Physical Medicine

* 60 min Initial Consultation: $140
* 60 min follow up: $100
* 45 min follow up: $85
* 30 min follow up: $65
* Acupuncture only (30 mins): $40
 Acupuncture is included in all of the above payment structures. Some patients require weekly or twice-weekly acupuncture treatments. The doctor may or may not be in the room the entire duration of the Acupuncture-only visit.

Dr. Johann de Chickera, Naturopathic Doctor
Johann completed his 4-year degree at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Toronto. His clinical focus lies in chronic disease, such as those related to the Gastrointestinal, Endocrine, and Immune Systems.
Johann is excited to join the team at Momma to Mommy to focus on a passion of his: fertility and hormone regulation. These areas are highly rewarding as there is an undeniable lapse in the conventional approach for treating these conditions. We know more and more about the importance of simple lifestyle interventions to increase positive pregnancy outcomes, as well the use of nutraceuticals in the treatment of common conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis and fibroids.
His approach to medicine relies on working with the patient to come up with a feasible, multi-factorial approach that addresses all complaints at once. He employs a strong background in diagnostic medicine and human physiology and pathology to diagnose and treat. His treatments involve a combination of nutritional counselling, botanical medicine, eastern medicine (acupuncture), nutraceutical supplementation and hands on physical medicine.
